There is nothing that defines the back to school season in the elementary classroom as much as the ‘All About Me’ writing activity. But instead of having your students compose a piece of writing or design a poster this year, how about engaging them from day one with this craft activity?
These ‘mini-me’ students are sure to be a hit with parents too! And the book each mini-me is holding is full of information about that student. (Well, the cover and back page are. To write a whole book about themselves would take your students until Memorial day. And they would be pretty fed up by the beginning of October).
To begin with, each students makes the book cover with a piece of construction paper. They fold it so that it will be three dimensional, and add the title book spine.
The front cover and the back blurb are information pages.

And look like this when they are stuck to the book cover:
Then the fun starts! There are plenty of different hair options, so the students can make their craft as individual as they are. They add facial features with a sharpie and glue the head to a piece of construction paper. Then they glue the open book in place.
Finally, they glue the hands in place so that their mini-me is really holding the book!
How cute is she? These make such a neat bulletin board for Open House or back to school night. And it is one of the best keep sakes my second graders ever made!
This craft is available from my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
Best wishes on your back to school season, and hoping you have your best one yet!
